It’s the end of the 8th week of the internship and I have very mixed feelings. On the one hand, I’m excited to go home soon to my family and friends, but on the other hand, I don’t want this to end. I’ve learned so much and I’ve had so many amazing experiences that I’m afraid that life back home will seem so mundane.

The last time I checked in, I had just started reading up on the background of my project and gathering ideas for what I wanted to look for. Now, as we're finishing up week 8 of the REU, I am reflecting on how much I've learned in the past couple months and how much valuable information I can take from this experience.

About three and a half weeks left until I depart from the Chicago Botanic Garden REU, and as I look back on the last seven weeks, I can see just how much I’ve grown as a person in science.

I am so excited to be back at the garden for another summer of research! Last year I started on a project to elucidate the evolutionary relationships of taxa within the evening primrose family (Onagraceae). The project was just starting, so the kinks weren’t quite worked out yet… I spent my whole summer troubleshooting and trying (often failing) to develop methods that would give us results.
